How's about a nice GTSC Faustus, i mean sure, a Science Cruiser wouldn't really have a place on the field of battle, but building one could bestow a giant boost to your sensor radius. So rather than building probes, you pump out a Faustus, place 'em in a few good positions around the map, and Bobsuruncle, you've got a Sensor network revealing the entire map...!

Faustus will effectively (so will insterlations) be the research ships. Both will have large sensor radius, more so the Faustus due to its large solar panels being able to act as long range sensors. Map wide sensor networks would pervent players from doing snek attacks as you will know where all their forces are at any one time, this will limit the player's options. While a Faustus will have a large sensor range they will still be weakly armmored and armed which will alow a small strike force to come in and take it out. The Fauctus may also be used as comm stations at subspace nodes for bringing in larger cap ships like destroyers, but at the moment this is in the planing stage, if you would like to give suggestions on this topic you should start a new thread.
Oh rest assured that by the time we reach v1.0 there will be all ships from the T-V war all the way though to the custom post capella campaign that we have planed.

I was just wondering, you've seperated the 14 Year War period from the Great War period, and yet there's not a lot of difference in terms of ships between those two periods in regard to the storyline of FS1. What i'm thinking is that you could consider talking to the lads doing the Terran-Vasudan War Mod Project over on Hard Light Forums. The mod centers around the years proceeding the Great War period, and feature a plethora of ships that they've presumably made themselves to fit in the period. I'm sure they'd be willing to help a fellow FS Oriented mod, and it could only be beneficial for the FSNA. Their site is here: www.3dactionplanet.com/hlp/hosted/14_year_war/and their Forums are here dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=67i know there are already small differences in the periods, namely the principal fighters, but having an entirely new generation of ships would add another dimension to the mod, and, well, that's my two cents...

we are in fact all ready working with the T-V war mod project at HLP, although not as closely or publicly as we could (should?). But the main reson for sperating the two periods is story line, we all ready have a great story for this period and it wouldn't fit anywhere else better then the T-V war period. Otherwise we more or less follow what they haveing doing for this time period. However they don't have many ships finshed for their mod, which means that alot of ships that maybe used during this period will not be. The FSNA mod team is now turning towards the great-war period which should appear alot more complete; hopefully by the time v0.2 is released we should have either most or all the ships from FS 1 in game.

I belive that the Psamtik was a Hatshepsut class GTVA destoryer.
Oh, now would be a good time to run a few ideas past you all regarding the starting fleets of the GTVA.
As the GTVA is made up of two species we typicaly will have two destoryers in their starting fleet. However this does put any GTVA player at an advatage, which in name of fair play shouldn't happen. So we have two ideas to chouse from, either the player starts with a set destoryer or the player starts with a random destoryer which could be either of the current destoryers (note that the GTVA only has two currently being produced destoryers the Hatshepsut and the Hecate, while the Typhon and Orion still are working destoryers they are being pased out of the GTVA; this is why the player would start with either the Hecate or the Hatshepsut). The latter does procent a problem that the player will also only be able to produce ships from that race that the destoryer is from untill they get another sorce of production (note that this is only destoryer wise so it only includes cruisers, fighters, bombers, transports and freighters. The player can take contoll of an insterlation from which corvettes, cruisers and other ship can be produced from that are of other races). Although the same problem does also occur with the other option, at lest you know what you are starting with. The latter idea also means that GTVA players have to be ready to use both Vasudan and Terran fleets to their fullest ablity, unlike the other sides like the NTF which is all ways going to be Terran.
Anyway what do you people think?

About the GTVA destroyer thing, I think the player should be able to play as GTVA - Vasudan or GTVA - Terran. I know the GTVA has become like one race, but it simply has too many ships, a lot of which are for the same purpose. If it were split into 2, each race could have its own ships, plus both could have the ships that were made as a joint project, like the colossus.

That idea has being discussed so many times it's not funny anymore; in the end we had to enforce the "GTVA will not every be split up" line. FSNA is slightly different as we have 4 races per period, two of which are normaly in some form just the GTVA split up into either race. Take for instance the GTI and the HOL which will feature in the GW Mk I, the GTI is the Terran only race for the period while the HOL is the Vasudan only race for that period. So you can see that you all ready have the option to play as one race GTVA sides all ready, they only have a different name. It should also be noted that to play these races you have to set your self to either the GTA or the PVN then select the period, this way you know that you are playing only one side or the other.
Put simple the GTVA can't be broken up, far too many of their ships are built using the other's tech. But the other factions can be done and can be played; so if you want to play as the Terrans during GW Mk II then all you have to do is play as the NTF. There is nothing stopping players from setting them selves up to be on the same team as an NTF player if they are the GTVA.

Well, its not that I want to play as only terrans, its more to do with wanting less ships that do the same job as many other ships you could build. Lets face it; there is only so many things you can do to make your fighters different.
However, since it has been discussed so many times, there isnt really a point in doing it again, I'm sure all the arguments have been brought up.

Yep i know what you're saying. I wonder, when you add the Aelous (heehee) are you going to give it normal lazer weapons or that special flak weapon that the "Flak Frigate" has. I personally would like the Aelous to have about 6 of those flak guns.
