now that i'm registered, i think i'd like to throw in another interesting idea, that, i question will actually be implementable, but it would be nifty if physically possible.
the idea is: Re-nameable ships/squadrons
and i'm not talking about renaming the ships before you buy them, i'm talking about after they've left their dock, to bring more meaning to battles.
here's what i'm sort of talking about:
instead of GTC Fenris was defeated by GTCv Deimos
it would be something like: GTC Glory was defeated by GTCv Undaunted
except the changes wouldnt be universal, you would be able to rename each ship (on your own team) to actually have a designation, like you could have 3 or 4 squadrons of myrmidons, each designated with a different name, such as alpha wing, beta wing, etc.
while it would be rather (and i say this lightly) stupid to rename ships like RU-collectors, designating names for individual frigates, cruisers and corvettes (talking in FS terms not HW classification) reflecting the glory that the ship might bestow upon the fleet in combat.
likewise the shivan players could designated fearsome names of evil deities for their ships, like the rakshasa class, or the moloch class, to inspire fear in the enemies (that are smaller than they are)
but to prevent insanity, have the player not be able to rename neutral-ally ships or hostile ships, otherwise you'd be renaming the enemies SD lucifer, the "SD Fuzzball"
again, i have no clue how this could be implemented, but if possible it would certainly take away the feel that the battles are just between a bunch of nameless ships.
(hell, if you could do this, you could re-name some ships to have NTF or HOL designations )
so yeah, i have no clue if this is even physically implementable, but it would be nifty. maybe something to consider near-er a final release, or if you've hit a roadblock and have alot of spare time.
either way, just something to consider.
